Celebrating the Written Word & Human Imagination

A Visit from St Pat’s

Over the last fortnight, the Year 6 classes from St Pat’s have visited the Library for a BYO Book Reading session and chance to look at our extensive Library.

All the Year 6 students enjoyed reading in the comfortable chairs – it was a little bit different to what they are used to!

A big thank you to their teachers for bringing them across.

OverDrive – an e-Library

Students have been learning about OverDrive in their Library sessions.

OverDrive is an online collection of eBooks and audio books. It is free to use for all Assumption students. Students can also download the free SORA app on to their phones or other devices so that they can have something to listen to or read away from school.

OverDrive can be accessed through the Library Homepage. Students should have a shortcut to this on their device – but it can also be accessed through School Links in Simon.

Some suggestions for great reading include:

Last Shot by John Feinstein

When Stevie is sent to report on the basketball championship at the Superdome he overhears a plot to throw the championship game… and throws himself into danger!

Waterfall by Lisa T Bergren

Gabi and Lia are bored. So bored. Really bored. And hot. All they want to do is get out of the dreadful, dusty old archaeological site and go home. But Gabi places her hand on an ancient handprint in a tomb and is transported back in time… to a battlefield in 14th Century Italy. She’s not bored now … but will she survive?

If you would like more information about OverDrive, please contact the Library.

HOLIDAY READING

Reading is a relaxing pastime and a great way to keep the brain engaged over the holiday period. A study by the University of Sussex showed that reading for six minutes can reduce stress levels by 68%!

All students are welcome to borrow books for the school holidays, so please encourage your students to visit the Library for some reading matter before term ends! They can also borrow through OverDrive as mentioned above.

Happy reading!

Director of Library and Information Services
