Boarding Academic Support

Home / Boarding / Academic Support

At Assumption College, we believe that academic success is built on a foundation of structure, support, and encouragement. It’s why we are deeply committed to supporting the academic success of our boarding students.

We understand that structured study time, access to resources, and personalised learning opportunities are essential for helping students reach their full potential. Our warm and supportive environment ensures that every boarder feels encouraged and equipped to excel in their studies.

Dedicated Study Time

Each evening, boarders benefit from dedicated, supervised study sessions that provide the time and space to focus on their academic responsibilities. Whether it’s completing homework, revising for exams, or working on extension tasks, this time is designed to foster productivity and academic growth.

Key features of study time:

  • Supervised sessions – Study time begins promptly at 6:45 PM each evening and is an important part of the daily routine. This dedicated time provides students with a calm and focused environment to dive into their studies, with caring supervision to guide and support them.
  • Punctuality matters – To make the most of this valuable time, boarders are encouraged to arrive promptly and plan ahead for any breaks. This helps create a smooth and uninterrupted study session for everyone.
  • Preparedness – We encourage students to come fully prepared with all their study materials at the start of the session. Being ready ensures they can focus on their tasks and make the most of this productive time.
  • Group study – Learning together is a highlight of study time! Collaborative sessions in the common areas of the boarding houses allow students to share ideas, support one another, and grow as a team. It’s a wonderful way to build friendships while tackling academic challenges together.

Additional Academic Support for Seniors

Senior students in Years 11 and 12 have access to additional academic support tailored to their needs. This includes:

  • Tutoring sessions – Designated times for one-on-one or small group tutoring to address specific challenges or extend learning.
  • Silent independent study – Quiet spaces for focused, uninterrupted study.
  • Extended study time – Seniors may request permission for extended study hours to prepare for exams or complete major projects.

Access to the College Library

The College Library is a hub of learning and discovery, offering a wealth of resources to support students’ academic journeys.

Library Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:45 PM

Students are welcome to use the library during recess and lunch breaks, making it a convenient and quiet space for research, reading, or catching up on assignments.

Personalised Learning Services

In addition to structured study sessions, boarders have access to the College’s personalised learning services. These services are designed to cater to individual learning styles and needs, ensuring that every student receives the support they require to thrive academically.
