Participation in at least one co-curricular activity annually is compulsory for all students in Years 7 to 12, with a minimum attendance requirement of 85%.

Explore Your Passion With Diverse Co-Curricular Activities

Students have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of interests and passions through our extensive co-curricular programs. Whether they are drawn to deepening their faith, expressing themselves through creative and performing arts, working with animals, or competing in a variety of sports, there is something for everyone.

Community Service

Students from all religions and backgrounds are warmly welcomed to participate in activities that inspire personal growth and community impact. Through programs such as Youth Ministry, social justice initiatives, and enrichment opportunities like Game Changers, immersion experiences, and the Duke of Edinburgh certification, students can deepen their faith, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to the world.

Creative & Performing Arts

For those with a creative spark, we offer a vibrant array of opportunities to express and develop their talents. Students can immerse themselves in musical bands, choir, dance, debating, theatre, and photography, honing their skills while forming lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. These programs encourage self-expression, collaboration, and artistic growth in a supportive environment.

Sports & Equestrian

Athletically inclined students can take part in a wide variety of team and individual sports, competing against other AGSV/APS schools throughout the academic year. With offerings such as AFL, athletics, basketball, cricket, cross country, equestrian, hockey, netball, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, touch rugby, and volleyball, there’s something for every student to enjoy. These programs promote physical fitness, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition.

Sheep Showing & Judging

Students with a passion for animals and agriculture can explore Australia’s rich farming heritage through our Sheep Showing and Judging program. This unique opportunity allows students to develop responsibility, teamwork, and competitive sportsmanship while forming meaningful connections with animals. Participants showcase their skills at agricultural events across Victoria, celebrating the traditions of Australia’s agricultural industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand parents and students have many questions about our co-curricular programs and what is required of students and their families to succeed, so we have compiled a list of our most commonly asked questions to ensure smooth, stress-free participation in our unique activities.

Am I allowed to watch my child participate in their chosen co-curricular activities?

Yes, parents/carers are welcome – and even encouraged – to attend sporting matches, performances, and events in which their child is participating. However, please note that training, practice and rehearsals are not open to spectators unless otherwise communicated.

Does my child need any special equipment to participate in co-curricular activities?

We supply the necessary equipment for most co-curricular activities, unless otherwise communicated. Some activities require students to have their own equipment, such as tennis racquets and musical instruments. For Equestrian co-curricular participants, please note that the College is unable to provide horses, stabling and float transport. This must be organised independently by students’ respective families.

When will my child need to be available to participate in co-curricular activities?

Each co-curricular activity has a unique participation schedule that will be provided to students and families near the beginning of the term or activity’s season. For co-curricular sports, weekly training takes place immediately following the end of the school day - typically on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday - and concludes by 5PM. Most Saturday sports matches are played between 8AM – 1PM at various locations, and a fixture is provided nearer to the commencement of each season. Cultural co-curricular activities hold rehearsals or meetings after school on specific days – specific schedules will be provided prior to commencement. Some activities (such as dance and theatre productions) will require periodic Sunday rehearsals leading up to performances. All cultural activities will have after-school or weekend shows, with specific timings and dates to be provided.

How does my child get to co-curricular training, rehearsals or events?

Parents are responsible for drop-off and pick-up of students participating in co-curricular activities, including any training, rehearsals or practice. However, for most activities, training, practice and rehearsals are held onsite following the end of the school day. School bus travel is included for co-curricular sports away games, departing from Assumption College. Other bus stop locations may also be available and will be shared closer to the season commencing. Likewise, for cultural activities where there is a requirement to attend full-day rehearsals during the school day, or attend a show after school, buses are typically provided and depart from the College only. Parents will be expected to collect their children thereafter.

Are co-curricular activities included in the school fees?

There is no additional cost to participate or compete in co-curricular activities. However, students may be required to purchase appropriate sports uniforms and equipment to participate in certain activities.

Who are the coaches/leaders of co-curricular activities?

Most of our co-curricular coaches and activity leaders are current teaching staff or Old Collegians who specialise in the specific activity. In some circumstances, external coaches may also be recruited to provide specialised support.

Old Collegians/Alumni who are interested in volunteering to coach/lead a co-curricular activity at Assumption College, please Contact Us to submit an Expression of Interest.

Do music lessons qualify as a co-curricular activity?

No, individual music lessons do not qualify as a co-curricular activity. However, there are several co-curricular opportunities for music enthusiasts to develop their technical and performance skills. These include band, drumming ensembles, and choir. Students will be given the opportunity to choose a music co-curricular that suits their interests when they are open for registration.

Do I need to purchase specific uniforms for co-curricular activities?

There will be specific costume/uniform requirements for each co-curricular activity. Some will be provided by the school, but others will need to be purchased by the parents/carers. Information for required uniforms and equipment for each activity will be provided prior to the commencement of the activity.
