Co-Curricular Activities
Our co-curricular sports and equestrian programs are about more than just getting active; they offer a holistic platform for students to develop social skills, critical thinking skills, and physical fitness. Whether competing on the field with a team, individually on the track, or supporting their peers from the sidelines, students learn valuable lessons about resilience, discipline, and good sportsmanship.
Our sports and equestrian programs are designed to challenge students physically, mentally and socially, while helping them improve their confidence, quick thinking, and collaboration skills, setting them up for success beyond college.
Assumption College has a strong, enduring, and storied sporting history. Many of Australia’s greatest sporting heroes still share fond memories of their time on our college sports fields, carrying their spirit into national and international competitions and inspiring the next generation of up-and-coming student athletes.
This legacy inspires current students to pursue sporting excellence. We are committed to fostering our students’ passions and furthering our legacy with an extensive array of fun and educational co-curricular sport options to nurture the next generation of sporting heroes.
When participating in our co-curricular sporting competitions, our students will have the chance to represent our college while competing against other Victorian schools in the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV) competition. Our girls’ sporting teams will also have the opportunity to compete in Association of Public Schools (APS) competitions.
These inter-school competitions provide valuable opportunities for students to enhance their skills and show their school pride and good sportsmanship.

Students will participate in various weekly training sessions on campus to hone their skills and travel to and from Away matches together to bond with their teammates, win or lose.
Weekly training takes place on campus immediately following the end of the school day on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and concludes by 5 PM. Matches are then typically played at Home or Away venues on Saturdays between 8 AM – 1 PM. Fixtures are provided prior to the commencement of each season.
Teams enjoy travelling together by bus to Away venues, departing from and returning to Assumption College, to foster team spirit and camaraderie before and after the match. Families are welcome to spectate and support our student athletes at both Home and Away venues.
Equestrian sports like dressage and showjumping are timeless disciplines with a proud history in Australia, celebrating both the rider’s skill and the extraordinary bond of respect between horse and rider. At Assumption College, our co-curricular equestrian programs empower students to enhance their physical fitness—building core strength, improving coordination, and fostering a deep sense of responsibility through horse care.
Delivered in mixed year-level groups, these programs provide expert guidance from teachers and equestrian coordinators, creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can develop social skills, personal confidence, and a lifelong passion for equestrian pursuits.
Students enrolled in this program are required to attend regular equestrian meetings on campus and participate in at least four interschool competitions representing Assumption College. Student-riders will showcase their skills when competing against other riders in the Victorian Equestrian Interschool Series, which is accredited by Equestrian Australia, as well as other equestrian competitions throughout the school year.
It is important to note that any students wishing to participate in our equestrian programs must have their own horse, stabling and float transport to events.

Passionate students eager to pursue a career in sports are also encouraged to participate in our High Performance Sports subjects. These higher programs offer unparalleled opportunities to develop advanced skillsets, challenging them and preparing them for national and international competitions beyond graduation.
