At Assumption College, our innovative curriculum model acknowledges that students learn at different speeds, and have different strengths, interests and aspirations. We plan and act so that upon leaving Assumption College, our students are creative and curious global citizens who embrace lifelong learning.

Learning innovation built on strong foundations

Inspired by the example of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of Marist education, we remain dedicated to building an aspirational and responsive curriculum that ignites a love of learning and celebrates personal excellence in all its forms.

The concept of personalised and tailored learning experience is not new. Our approach is grounded in strong educational research and best practice, promoting personal growth and success by enabling each student to pave a path that reflects their unique learning needs, interests and aspirations.

Our innovative model for personalised learning is founded on the principles of mastery, autonomy and purpose, which together create meaningful, engaging, and challenging learning experiences.

Mastery

Mastery is the capacity for deep learning within a particular subject area. Learners of today need the capacity to solve complex problems through patience, practice and perseverance. Our curriculum prioritises depth of understanding, skill development, and sustained engagement, rather than superficial coverage of content.

Autonomy

Autonomy grows when we have voice and choice. With the help and support of expert adults, including students' own parents or carers, our innovative learning program empowers students to take ownership of their learning journeys. Students are supported to set their own pace, targets, and learning pathways, building confidence, independence, and self-awareness as learners.

Purpose

Meaningful learning experiences powerfully connect us with knowledge and skills. Our innovative curriculum helps students create meaning and connect their learning to the world beyond school. This sense of purpose motivates engagement, deepens understanding, and fosters a lifelong love of learning.

The pathway to personal aspiration

Assumption College provides a pathway for every student to pursue their aspirations. Students and families may choose a traditional learning experience or explore expanded opportunities that offer more choice, growth, and challenge.

Whatever that pathway looks like for your child, we partner closely with families to support informed decision making and individual success.

Our curriculum program emphasises guided student choice, fostering ownership of learning and encouraging exploration of pathways aligned with individual interests and aspirations, as students progress toward their senior school certificate and life beyond Assumption College.

Flexible learning pathways

Upon completion of Year 7, our program provides learning opportunities across levels, allowing them to challenge themselves and progress at a pace that reflects their readiness and capability.

Students are guided through selecting a depth and breadth of academic subjects spanning English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Religious Education, Science, Technologies, and Visual Arts.

Middle and Senior School students may also pursue specialised learning interests, including Animal Sciences, High Performance Sports, and Hospitality, supporting diverse talents and career aspirations.

Pathways Education

At Assumption College, Pathways Education aims to provide our students and their families with the latest information to assist each student in making decisions about their future, careers and life beyond school.

The purpose-built Pathways Office combines technology with face-to-face opportunities to inform, prepare, explore and challenge students in preparation for a rewarding future study experience or work life.

Our Pathways staff have formal postgraduate career qualifications and comply with the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners, ensuring expert, ethical, and up-to-date guidance.

Careers Expo & Learning Opportunities

Our Careers Expo is an annual fixture in our College calendar, offering students and their families an opportunity to speak directly with prospective employers and tertiary institutions and learn more about the pathways that interest them whether that’s employment opportunities, gap year options, tertiary courses and entry requirements, or scholarships.

Students also have the chance to hear directly from our Assumption College alumni, through our lunchtime chat program. During these informal gatherings, recent graduates and Old Collegians from all walks of life share their stories of success, the pathways they have pursued, and their personal achievements. Students enjoy the opportunity to learn from others experiences and discover what it takes to make a successful transition into further education and employment.
