VCAL

Assumption College has a reputation in the Catholic education sector as a leading VCAL provider.

School-based apprenticeships or traineeships (SBATs) are available, allowing students to stay at school, work part-time and gain a nationally recognised qualification while completing their senior school certificate.

VCAL focuses on hands-on learning. It provides students who are more likely to be interested in TAFE, an apprenticeship or job after year 12 with a practical alternative to VCE.

VCAL’s flexibility enables students to design a study program that suits their interests and learning needs. They select subjects from VCE studies, VET qualifications and VCAL units.

There are four compulsory strands in VCAL:

  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Work-related skills
  • Industry-specific skills
  • Personal development skills

Students who start VCAL and then decide to complete their VCE can transfer between certificates. Any VCE studies successfully completed as part of the VCAL program will count towards their VCE.
