Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday and the Resurrection

“That which is Christ-like within us shall be crucified.
It shall suffer and be broken.
And that which is Christ-like within us shall rise up.
It shall love and create”

Michael Leunig beautifully captures the contradictory essence of Easter – that the Resurrection does not stand alone, nor in opposition to Good Friday and the Cross. Rather it is the triumphant end to a story that refuses to end in darkness, sadness and death. Christ, by embracing all three, defeats them. Light, happiness and life will always win out when we choose to live our lives in selfless, compassionate service of the other. It is Michael Leunig again to whom we turn, to capture in poetic word pictures our great Easter hope:

“Let us live in such a way

That when we die

Our love will survive

And continue to grow.

Amen”

(Michael Leunig)

And so we pray:

Lord, this Easter
Help us to recognise you
In the broken world around us
May we transform this world
Through our love and generous creativity.
Amen
